Savr is a free, hosted or self-hosted progressive web app that works online, offline, and on your phone. Savr is: - 0-data because it does not store your data. You do. - Unhosted because it is a static site with no backend. - Local-first because it works offline. Features - Save articles for reading later - Remove distractions like advertisements - Read content and images without an internet connection - No dependency on a service/company for scraping or storage - Optional authorization and cross-device synchronization (using your Dropbox or Google Drive) - Open-source and cross-platform (mobile and desktop/web) - Use the free hosted version, or self-host it - Non-proprietary, as it integrates with any browser and does not require specific extensions (see bookmarklet) How to Save Articles In the App When on the main screen, you can always click the "+" button and enter a URL. Bookmarklet The bookmarklet is the recommended way to save articles when using a desktop browser. Once installed, you can click it on any page you want to save. In the Browser Append the Savr URL to the front of the URL you want to save. For example: savr.link/https://github.com/jonocodes/savr/wiki/Welcome-to-Savr If you have trouble with the above method, there are alternatives that may work better. Android If you have "installed" the PWA*, you can send articles to it. When viewing an article in a mobile browser, use the browser's "Share" button to send it to your installed Savr app. *https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Progressive_web_apps/Guides/Installing Synchronization If you want to read and save articles on multiple devices, you can authorize your cloud service provider (typically Dropbox or Google) to sync your articles. This is optional, and if you don't want to sync, you don't need to create any account to use Savr. Note: You do not need to sync your articles to a cloud service for them to be available offline. They are automatically saved to your device regardless. Security All content is stored locally on your device. Savr has no server-side storage, which means we don't host any of your data, and you can easily self-host the app if you prefer. This also means there is no login or account creation required to use Savr. If you choose to synchronize your data across devices, you will need to use a cloud service. That authentication is handled directly between your browser and the cloud provider, without passing through Savr's servers. Offline Use The Savr app does not need an internet connection to read content, as everything is downloaded locally. You don't even need the app to read saved articles, as the HTML archives are self-contained. Of course, you won't be able to modify your collection when the app is not running. You can view your data directory, where articles are simply organized, allowing you to copy out individual files if needed.
