Description
Nekogram is a third-party Telegram client with not many but useful modifications. Appearance Use your avatar as drawer header background, use system emojis, let the status bar be transparent, and more. Chats Set sticker size, let folders be shown on the forward page, and pause video automatically when switched to the background. Translator Translate messages and articles, with multiple translation engines to choose from. More The above is only a small part of the features, for more features, please download and check it out. License GNU General Public License v2.0. ⛔ SECURITY NOTICE: CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF NEKOGRAM (EXTRA.JAVA CLASS) Based on the technical analysis of the "Extra.java" source code, extreme caution is recommended when using this client. Below are the main reasons why Nekogram cannot be considered privacy-oriented software: 1. EXFILTRATION OF SENSITIVE DATA (PHONE NUMBER AND ID) The code contains an explicit function called syncNumbers(). This method: · Scans all Telegram accounts linked to the app. · Extracts the user ID and associated PHONE NUMBER. · Sends this data in JSON format to an external bot (@nekonotificationbot) operated by the developers. This behavior is not present in the official client and constitutes a privacy violation, as your identifying information is transmitted to third parties without clear technical justification. 1. CODE OBFUSCATION The class is marked with the @Obfuscate annotation. Obfuscation is used to make the code readable only by machines and difficult for security experts to analyze. In an open-source project, hiding parts of the code raises doubts about the transparency of background operations. 1. FORCED TRACKING AND ANALYTICS The app includes configurations for Sentry (hardcoded DSN) and forced telemetry. While crash reporting is common, the combination with phone number collection makes user tracking extremely precise and potentially invasive. 1. GEOLOCALIZED MONETIZATION LOGIC The getDefaultNews() method inserts affiliate links for VPN and proxy services based on the user's country code (MCC) (e.g., China and Russia). This indicates that the app is being used as a commercial vehicle to generate profits through user traffic. 1. INTEGRATION WITH OSINT INVESTIGATION BOTS Native integration with database search bots (such as @tgdb_search_bot) suggests that the app is designed to monitor or identify users, potentially exposing even those conducting the searches to developer surveillance. CONCLUSION Nekogram offers appealing additional features, but the hidden "cost" is handing over your phone number and account metadata to an unverified third party. RECOMMENDATION If privacy and anonymity are a priority, it is strongly advised to uninstall Nekogram and use the official Telegram client or transparent forks that lack proprietary tracking modules.
