About this app

Requirements

A rooted arm64 device with a framework that implements libxposed API 102: Vector or current LSPosed. Android 9 (API 28) or newer. The official YouTube app. Tested on 21.41.525.

Installation

Install the APK from the release attached to this repository. Enable YoutubeHideAds in the manager, with YouTube as its only scope. Force-stop YouTube, then reopen it. Log entries are tagged: YouTubeHideAds: On a cold start the log reports the startup self-checks (531 in total) followed by Hook installed lines.

Validation

Measured on a Pixel 8 Pro, Android 17, YouTube 21.41.525 and Vector 2.2. All 531 startup self-checks pass, every hook installs, and video ads, feed ads, sponsored Shorts and Playables are removed live. Premium, fullscreen and panel promotions passed controlled hook tests; naturally delivered positives remain unverified. Other YouTube versions and devices are not certified.

Troubleshooting

Problem Suggested action No module log entries Check that the module is enabled with YouTube in scope, then force-stop YouTube. What's new

v1.2.0Oct 30, 2026

Works with YouTube 21.43.523. Background playback and SponsorBlock skipping had stopped working after the YouTube update; both are back. (#3) Update check. Once each time YouTube starts, the module asks GitHub whether a newer release exists and, if so, shows a YouTube-style dialog with Update (opens the release page) and Later. It is on by default; turn it off under About → Check for updates. Report a problem. About → Compatibility & diagnostics → Report a problem opens a new GitHub issue with the compatibility report already filled in. Nothing is sent until you submit it. New name: YouTube Hide Ads, matching the other modules. Settings, package and saved preferences are unchanged. The About page and compatibility report show the real version again (1.1.0 showed 1.1.0 (132)). SponsorBlock request failures are now logged with their cause. Known issue: HTTPS filtering apps AdGuard and similar apps, when their certificate is installed as a system certificate, stop SponsorBlock and the update check from connecting (NOT_ENOUGH_SCTS in the log). Exclude sponsor.ajay.app and github.com from HTTPS filtering. Details.
