Description
This app notifies you when smart glasses are nearby. It uses company identifiers in the Bluetooth advertisements sent by these devices. False positives are likely (e.g., from VR headsets). Proceed with caution when approaching someone wearing glasses—they might just be regular ones, despite the app's warning. The app's author, Yves Jeanrenaud, takes no liability for the app or its functionality. Use at your own risk. By design, detecting Bluetooth LE devices may not always work as expected. The app is developed by a self-taught individual in their free time. False Positives The Nearby Glasses app may alert you to smart glasses when a VR headset from the same manufacturer—or another product—is nearby. It may also miss actual smart glasses. However, the app is free and open source. You can review, modify, and reuse the code (under the license). Privacy Nearby Glasses does not store user details, collect phone data, or include telemetry, ads, or other nuisances. If installed via the Play Store, Google may collect stats—the app itself does not. Logfiles (if exported) are your responsibility; they are stored locally, not shared, and contain only manufacturer IDs of detected BLE devices. Use with Extreme Caution There is no guarantee that detected smart glasses are really nearby—it could be another BLE device with a similar advertisement. Do not act rashly. Think before responding to any alert (not just from this app). Features - Shows a notification when smart glasses are nearby (i.e., a BLE device matching one of the listed company IDs is detected). - "Nearby" means RSSI (signal strength) ≤ a set threshold: -75 dBm by default, corresponding to medium distance with decent signal. ⚠️ Warning! Harassing someone because you think they are wearing a covert surveillance device can be a criminal offense. It may even be a more serious offense than using such a device. Please seek legal advice regarding your local laws on this matter. Credits and License The icon is based on Eyeglass icons created by Freepik - Flaticon. This app is licensed under the AGPL-3.0 license.
