About this app

Ventic is a free, open-source media library and BitTorrent player designed for desktops (Windows, macOS, Linux) and TV/mobile platforms (Android and Android TV).

Key features of the application include:

* **Built-in Torrent Streaming:** It allows users to stream torrents directly within the app (starting playback on the first bytes so you can watch as it downloads) utilizing an in-process BitTorrent engine (librqbit).

* **Integrated Media Player:** On desktops, it embeds a native mpv player window rather than using a standard web browser video tag, bringing robust format support (such as HEVC, AV1, DTS, and half-downloaded MKVs) without needing external codec packs. On mobile/TV platforms, it utilizes native decoders via ExoPlayer.

* **Local and Private Library:** Your watch history, favorites, watchlist, and progress are stored entirely locally on your device with no account login, telemetry, or server syncing required. * **Ten-Foot UI / TV Friendly:** It features full d-pad navigation optimized for Android TV and remote controls.

* **Custom Sources:** It functions as a media browser (pulling metadata from sources like TMDB) but does not ship with or host any media sources or torrent lists by default, allowing users to configure their own add-ons or sources via a secure URL scheme (ventic://).

What's new

v0.5.1Aug 28, 2026
  • Fixes:
  • Casting to an Android TV works. The receiving device was blocking the stream itself: Android's network policy allowed plain http to loopback only, and a cast arrives from a bare LAN address there is no way to name in that file. Neither end could see it — the sending machine was told the film was fine, so the only symptom was a spinner on the television.
  • Live TV channels served over plain http play on Android, for the same reason.
  • A failed cast now names the right machine. "The device this was cast from couldn't be reached — check it is still on and on this network", instead of a message that sent you to the Sources screen over a television that had gone to sleep.
  • Windows builds again. mpv and ffmpeg are fetched under their renamed upstream assets, and the translation scripts no longer build \C:\… paths out of a file URL.
