Duper

An Android app to find your phone remotely via SMS commands.

The name comes from French verlan (slang made by reversing syllables) for perdu, which means "lost" in French.

Features

- Remote Ring: trigger an alarm and LED flash at maximum volume. - Remote Locate: get GPS coordinates via SMS. - SMS-based: no internet required on the target device. - Customisable: set your own command prefix and password. - Auto-GPS: optionally enable location services automatically, requiring a one-time ADB setup.

Commands

- <prefix> ring [password]: triggers the alarm. - <prefix> locate [password]: sends GPS coordinates via SMS.

Setup

1. Install the APK and grant SMS and location permissions. 2. From another phone, send the ring or locate command with your prefix and password.

Permissions

- SMS: receive commands and send responses. - Location: GPS tracking. - Camera and flashlight: visual alert. - Background location: track when the app is closed (optional but recommended).

Note

Android 15 and above blocks SMS permissions by default. If the SMS toggle is greyed out:

1. Go to Settings → Apps → Duper. 2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. On some devices, you may need to tap Permissions first to see this menu. 3. Select Allow restricted settings. 4. Return to Permissions and grant SMS access.

Auto-enable GPS (optional)

If your phone's location services are turned off, the locate command fails by default. Duper can automatically enable location services if you grant it a special permission via the Android Debug Bridge (ADB):

adb shell pm grant fr.sudotiz.duper android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS

This requires USB debugging enabled, and is a one-time setup.
