About this app
Liseur is an open-source EPUB books reader for Android, and a client for calibre-web and Komga: a modern reader that is equally at home with the files on your phone and with your own book server.
👀 Reading * Paginated EPUB rendering through the Readium toolkit, full screen by default * Tap right to go forward, left to go back, the middle for the controls; volume keys work too * A whole page always fits the screen, with no stray scrolling to catch the last line * Four reading themes (Light, Sepia, Dark, Black), independent of the app's own theme * Four bundled open fonts or the publisher's own, plus size, line spacing, margins and brightness * Time left in the chapter, time left in the book, page or percentage, and a scrubber with chapter ticks
🪧 Marking up and looking up * Highlights in four colours, notes, and bookmarks with a corner ribbon * A notebook of everything you marked in a book, exportable as Markdown * Search the whole book, with snippets and jump-to highlighting * Definitions for any selected word, or a hand-off to an offline dictionary app. Online lookups are off until you turn them on, and you choose which Wiktionary edition or mirror answers them
📚 Your library * Index folders of EPUBs, covers and all * Books you are using sort to the front; finished ones get a tick * Pull to refresh picks up whatever changed behind the app's back
🌐 Your own server * calibre-web: one screen sets it up with URL, username and password, and Liseur works out the catalog, download rights and sync token * Komga: paste the server address and an API key * Your server's books merge into the same library with a cloud badge; tap one to download and open it * Reading positions sync both ways, through calibre-web's Kobo protocol or Komga's read-progress API * Remove the copy on the device, or delete the book from the server
🎉 Free software * No trackers, no analytics, no proprietary dependencies. The only network traffic is to the book server you configured and, if you switch online definitions on, to the dictionary site you chose.

What's new
- This release introduces remote library browsing for downloading books without syncing reading progress, a floating control bar for auto-scrolling, and a new home-screen widget to browse your library covers.
- ▼Reading
- ・Auto-scroll can now be toggled directly under "Read by scrolling" in the main reading settings, and a floating bar appears on the page while auto-scrolling to pause, adjust speed, or stop (#266). Pausing or stopping immediately saves your spot on the page, and tapping speed controls multiple times in quick succession registers every tap.
- ▼Library
- ・You can now save and browse extra catalogs—including calibre-web, Komga, BookOrbit, OPDS feeds, or Project Gutenberg—and download individual titles or full categories (#261, #262). Books downloaded from these sources remain local to your device and never send reading progress or edits back to the remote server or KOReader sync.
- ・The "Start with free books" card now opens Project Gutenberg as a saved remote catalog, allowing you to browse by language or category and pick specific books (#262). Existing Gutenberg starter shelves are automatically converted on update without losing downloaded books or reading progress.
- ・A new "Your books" home-screen widget displays book covers from your library with paging arrows (#265). Tapping a cover opens the book, downloading it first if needed, while tapping the header opens the library.
- ・Reading-time widgets now fetch reading updates from other devices in the background after a sync and indicate whether their totals cover all devices, older synced data, or only the current phone (#265).
- ▼Fixes
- ・Tapping covers on the library widget in rapid succession now ignores earlier taps so the correct book opens once the library loads.
- ・Widget shortcuts now use private launch intents to prevent other apps from triggering unauthorized book downloads or opens.
- ・Sync updates completed while widgets are already refreshing now schedule a single follow-up refresh rather than triggering repetitive background statistics recalculations.
- ・Reading widgets no longer display "All devices" when showing reading streaks derived from older synced data.
- ▼Under the hood
- ・Release notes now contain signing certificate fingerprints and verification details to verify package authenticity (#264).
- ▼Verify the APK
- ・Package name and signing certificate SHA-256 fingerprint (for AppVerifier):
- com.chmouel.liseur 39:4E:04:13:02:44:51:B8:78:2C:49:2F:EE:20:3F:94:70:87:1E:63:D6:E4:10:88:E4:2A:F3:F7:C6:65:0A:94
- ・To verify the downloaded APK with Android SDK build tools:
- apksigner verify --print-certs liseur-v0.20.0.apk
- Verification must succeed and the certificate SHA-256 digest must match the fingerprint above (ignoring colons and letter case). This is the certificate fingerprint, not the APK file checksum.
