F-Droid

F-Droid is an installable directory for free software applications on the Android platform. The F-Droid client app makes it easy to browse, install and track application updates on your device.

It can connect to any F-Droid compatible repository. The default repository is hosted on f-droid.org and contains only true free software.

Android itself is open, meaning you can install APK apps from anywhere, but there are still many reasons to use F-Droid as a free software application manager:

* Receive notification when updates are available * Optionally automatically download and install updates * Track old and test versions * Filter apps that are incompatible with your device * Find apps by category and searchable description * Access application-related links such as donations, source code and other * Maintain security by checking the repository index signature and APK hash value
