Description
Bastyon is a decentralized social network based on the blockchain. The cryptocurrency used by this blockchain is Pocketcoin (PKOIN).
There is no central authority or corporation behind Bastyon. The platform is run by equal nodes on a blockchain with no centralized server. All revenue generated by the nodes is split between node operators and content creators.
Node operators stake Pocketcoin to mint blocks with rewards and transaction fees. Half of the rewards in each block go to content creators based on ratings their content gathers from users.
Usage
At the moment, users can connect to the social network in three ways:
- Through the official website: bastyon.com
- Using the desktop application
- Using the mobile app
Account Creation
The first time you access Bastyon, you should create your own account.
Just click "Sign in" and follow the instructions.
Note that you can register on Bastyon without sharing your email address. If you add your email address, it will only be used for newsletters and official communication, but it is not linked to your account.
Bastyon does not ask for a phone number, either.
Private Key
Once you create your account, Bastyon generates a private key. As the name implies, it must remain private. The private key is the only way to log in.
No username + password authentication—just the private key.
Important Notes About the Private Key
- Your private key is unique and must remain private.
- Write it down or save it in a safe location, and do not share it with anyone.
- If you lose your private key, there is no way to restore it. You will be permanently locked out of your account. You can create a new account, but you will never access the original one.
- The private key cannot be changed.
- No one—not even Bastyon's developers or "admins"—can access, change, or reset your private key. We stress this again: if you lose it, you will be permanently locked out. There is no "Forgot your password?" option to restore it.
How Bastyon Differs from Other Social Networks
Unlike Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and other major social networks, Bastyon is not controlled by a central company.
It is instead an open-source project that runs on distributed nodes. In addition:
- Bastyon does not ask for your email or phone number.
- Bastyon does not track your online behavior. No IP addresses are stored, and no tracking data is collected.
- It offers a built-in, end-to-end encrypted chat that is not linked to your email address or phone number (unlike Telegram, Signal, or WhatsApp, where your phone number is registered with your account).
- It is based on a blockchain, so all operations (posts, videos, comments, likes, etc.) are stored on the blockchain and cannot be deleted by anyone.
- It gives users freedom of speech without banning or limiting them for their political or religious ideas.
- Control is in the hands of users: high-reputation users (you earn "reputation points" from likes and comments on your posts/videos) are automatically ranked as "administrators." They are the only ones who can report posts. When several admins report the same post, it becomes hidden. This is similar to Wikipedia, where there is no company controlling content but a board of admins (elected by users) that makes decisions.
