About this app
Liseur is an open-source EPUB books reader for Android, and a client for calibre-web and Komga: a modern reader that is equally at home with the files on your phone and with your own book server.
👀 Reading * Paginated EPUB rendering through the Readium toolkit, full screen by default * Tap right to go forward, left to go back, the middle for the controls; volume keys work too * A whole page always fits the screen, with no stray scrolling to catch the last line * Four reading themes (Light, Sepia, Dark, Black), independent of the app's own theme * Four bundled open fonts or the publisher's own, plus size, line spacing, margins and brightness * Time left in the chapter, time left in the book, page or percentage, and a scrubber with chapter ticks
🪧 Marking up and looking up * Highlights in four colours, notes, and bookmarks with a corner ribbon * A notebook of everything you marked in a book, exportable as Markdown * Search the whole book, with snippets and jump-to highlighting * Definitions for any selected word, or a hand-off to an offline dictionary app. Online lookups are off until you turn them on, and you choose which Wiktionary edition or mirror answers them
📚 Your library * Index folders of EPUBs, covers and all * Books you are using sort to the front; finished ones get a tick * Pull to refresh picks up whatever changed behind the app's back
🌐 Your own server * calibre-web: one screen sets it up with URL, username and password, and Liseur works out the catalog, download rights and sync token * Komga: paste the server address and an API key * Your server's books merge into the same library with a cloud badge; tap one to download and open it * Reading positions sync both ways, through calibre-web's Kobo protocol or Komga's read-progress API * Remove the copy on the device, or delete the book from the server
🎉 Free software * No trackers, no analytics, no proprietary dependencies. The only network traffic is to the book server you configured and, if you switch online definitions on, to the dictionary site you chose.

What's new
- This release adds an on-device Codex for the book you’re reading and a spoiler-free Reading companion for profiles and chapter recaps. You can also translate and listen to pages using local servers, and the bookshelf widget is back.
- ▼Reading ・Introducting Codex, a better way to to find people, places and groups, read their passages, and see who appears together in a book. It only shows chapters before your place, works offline, and its map supports TalkBack and keyboard navigation. (#347)
- ・Select a name to see a spoiler-free profile with its source passages. The Reading companion can also recap chapters to help with later lookups. It uses the passages before your place and sends them to the service and model you choose. (#332, #339)
- ・Translate pages with earlier text from the same chapter for context, look up translated words, and read translated pages aloud with the page and speech kept in sync. Translation can use Ollama, LM Studio or llama.cpp; read aloud can use Kokoro-FastAPI. (#323, #324, #328, #339)
- ・See input and output prices when choosing translation models from DeepInfra or Together AI. (#330)
- ・Clear saved translations on your device or, with a compatible liseur-sync server, from your account. Translations can also be reused on another device through liseur-sync. (#326, #329)
- ・Choose On, Off or Reversed for volume-key paging. In Reversed mode, volume up turns pages forward and volume down goes back. (#335, #336)
- ▼Library ・Bring the bookshelf widget back to your home screen. It puts your current book first, followed by recently opened and unread books. (#333)
- ・Include completed companion recaps in ZIP backups, and optionally include account details and passwords protected by a backup password. Other backup contents, including settings and service addresses, remain unencrypted. (#338)
- ・Reading sessions shorter than two minutes no longer appear as separate entries in statistics; their time still counts toward totals and charts. (#325)
- ▼Fixes ・Narrow margins now use more of the available width on tablets. (#327)
- ・Page drags use the standard page turn on two phones affected by a graphics crash; other devices keep page curl. #334
- ・Companion lookup errors now include details about the service, model and response to help diagnose a failed answer. (#337)
