This is a special version of OpenVPN for compatibility with personalDNSfilter. NO ROOT REQUIRED!! Set the custom DNS server in the VPN profile you are using to 10.10.10.10 (do not put 127.0.0.1:3500 or whatever actual port to which pDNSf is bound, it won't work) to send DNS queries to pDNSf's local resolver. It will then forward the queries to the configured DNS servers. Make sure: 🔸the Private DNS setting in Android is off 🔸pDNSf is set to proxy only mode 🔸the box "Disable DNS server discovery" is checked 🔸it is using only encrypted connections (e.g. 116.202.176.26::853::DoT::dot.libredns.gr, 9.9.9.9::443::DoH::quad9.net/dns-query, etc.) to nameservers. 🔸desired blocklists and custom white/black/remap entries are added/enabled in advanced settings 🔸if using any domain-based blocklists rather than just IP hosts, make sure checkResolvedIP = true in Advanced settings ➡️ Edit configuration file If you do have root, pDNSf can bind to 127.0.0.1:53 and intercept all DNS requests, even without VPN setup, or function as a resolver for the entire LAN if needed.
