About this app
Most Android file managers treat storage as one place: the internal volume, listed. Filet has one storage interface underneath everything, and every backend is a plugin behind it. A zip is a folder. An APK is a folder, and classes.dex inside it is a browsable tree of smali. A WebDAV share is a folder. A feature written once works in all of them.
Features
Browsing
- Two panes, labelled A and B, each with its own history and selection. - Drag between panes: same volume moves, a different volume copies, with a preview under your finger. - Six view densities on one slider, from compact list to large grid. - Thumbnails for images, video frames, album art, and APK icons, cached on content so a rename does not re-decode anything. - Path bar accepts bare paths like /sdcard/Download. - Per-extension default openers, with remembered app choices.
Search
- Whole-device search answers in milliseconds, including inside APKs. - Two-stage: SQL narrows the index, then a scorer reranks in memory. - Fuzzy matching with word-boundary and camelCase bonuses, plus typo tolerance. - Frecency so what you open often and recently floats up. - Query language: type:, size:, modified:, in:, from:, pkg:, class:, perm:, inzip:, dup:, with AND, OR, NOT, and grouping. - Four scopes as chips: this folder, subfolders, whole device, provenance. - Every hit re-verified against the filesystem before display.
Archives and APKs
- Browse into an archive as a folder. Zip and everything zip-shaped, tar through gzip, bzip2 or xz, 7z, RAR and RAR5 including solid archives, and single compressed files. - Create archives in zip, tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz, or 7z. - Zip encryption with AES-256, AES-128, or the legacy ZipCrypto (offered and labelled weak). - Split archives in both directions: zip volumes or a numbered .001 byte split. - Extraction preview: destination shown as it will be, overwrite warnings, size estimate, and any entries trying to write outside the folder. - Automatic wrap and unwrap based on archive structure. - Edit a file inside an archive. Zip and plain tar re-compress only what changed. - Search inside archives. - RAR reading supported; RAR creation is not, due to licensing. - 7z with password is not supported, also due to licensing. - classes.dex opens as a tree of editable smali. - APK inspection: signature schemes, signer, SDK levels, native ABIs, protection status. - Edit the binary manifest without aapt2. - Rebuild and re-sign, reading minSdk from the APK.
Scripting
- Lua bound to the storage layer, so scripts work inside archives and on network shares. - Permission header declared per script and approved before running. - No io, no os.execute, no network. - Seven worked examples ship with the app.
Network sharing
- Any browser can open it. Nothing installed on the other machine. - Every reachable address listed and labelled by connection type. - Paths never enter a URL: /f/<token> makes traversal unrepresentable. - Optional PIN with QR code. - Live session list, revocable, non-expiring by default. - Folders open in the browser or download as a streamed zip. - Zero-copy streaming: sharing a large file costs no extra space.
Shortcuts and surfaces
- Home-screen shortcuts that survive a move by storing the file's index ID rather than its path. - Shortcuts to scripts and app actions, not just files. - Folder widget. - Crash reports shown on screen and kept locally, never uploaded.
Requirements
- Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer - Optional all-files access for whole-device browsing; Filet works without it but only shows folders you pick by hand - Optional foreground service for full index and active share
Permissions
- All-files access to browse the shared volume. - Foreground service (data sync) for indexing and sharing. - Internet and local network for sharing and network storage. No analytics, no crash reporting. - Install packages only when you tap Install on an APK or update.

What's new
- File Picker
- Filet now works as a file picker. Pick Filet from any app's "choose a file" and it hands the file back properly — one file or several — with the requesting app named at the top of the screen. - You can choose a file from inside an archive. Attach something straight out of a .zip without extracting it first. - The picker looks like Filet: the strip explaining what is being chosen sits with the app's own bars, and the Done button sits with the other actions. - Delete is not offered while another app is waiting for a file.
- Fixes
- Fixed Back getting stuck in a folder. Backing out of a folder could bounce between two folders instead of leaving the screen. - Fixed Filet appearing in "open with" and file pickers but doing nothing.
- Also included (from 0.1.3)
- Per-format compression options with real ZIP AES-256. - Split archives both ways. - Preview of an extraction before it happens, including the folder it will create. - Edit a file inside an archive without unpacking the whole thing.
