About this app
ARMSX2 is a free and open-source PlayStation 2 emulator for ARM devices, based on PCSX2, PCSX2_ARM64 for our OG versions that used x86 translation, and our own arm64jit with the new ARMSX2 refresh versions.
Its goal is to bring modern PS2 emulation to ARM platforms while staying aligned with upstream PCSX2 improvements. ARMSX2 now supports native ARM64 JIT/recompiler work alongside legacy x86-to-ARM64 translation paths, meaning it is no longer solely dependent on x86 translation. Development is ongoing, and the project continues to move toward deeper native ARM64 support as more of the emulator core is modernized.
ARMSX2 allows you to play PS2 games on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows devices, with a focus on ARM-based mobile and desktop hardware.
What's new
- New Max FPS Cap in Settings ---> Performance ---> Off / 60 / 30 / 20 / 15. Caps the on-screen frame rate to save battery and heat without slowing the game; emulation keeps running at full speed and only displayed frames are dropped. It's fully independent of the Speed Limit %, so you can run, say, 150% speed and a 30 fps display cap together. When a cap is active the OSD shows Display: N (cap N) so you can see the real presented rate.
- The OSD now shows Display: N (cap N) when a cap is active, so you can see the real presented frame rate (the FPS/VPS lines still show the internal/vsync rate).
- Added individual Hardware info (CPU/GPU model)
- Per-game settings are now written out as individual .ini files (one per game). They're stored in the gamesettings folder inside the app's data directory: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.armsx2/files/gamesettings/
- Moved the settings gear from the top-right corner to the top-center, so it's easier to reach.
- The game library no longer scrolls sideways, covers wrap onto more shelves to fill the screen instead.
- Added a green Resume button next to the X (exit) in the in-game menu, so getting back into the game is obvious rather than it just being in the Play section of settings.
- The library now re-scans your games automatically on boot, so anything you've added shows up without a manual refresh.
- Settings toggle boxes in the performance section of settings are now 35% smaller.
- Play section of settings bubbles should no longer balloon on tall displays (so smaller screens will have all settings).
- Taken from @isztldav work on Mac, PCSX2 2.7 upstream commits:
- Improved line anti-aliasing (AA1): sharper, less-blurry thin lines when upscaling. Texture-cache accuracy: more precise "exact target" matching (OverlapsValid), reducing some texture-cache misdetections.
- Updated controller database (adds 8BitDo Ultimate 2 mappings).
- Bumped the shader cache version.
