# LitReader — full description

App name: **LitReader** (the Perchance listing is titled `PocketNovel`). Short name for stores: **LitReader — Web Novel Reader**.

## What it is

LitReader is a fast, ad-free reader for serialized web novels and light novels. Web novels live scattered across a dozen websites, each with its own search, its own library, its own pop-ups and its own idea of how a chapter should be laid out. LitReader connects to twelve of those sites and puts them behind a single interface: one search, one library, one reading history, one update feed and one quiet dark reader.

You add a novel once. From then on LitReader is the only app you need to open — it remembers the exact chapter you stopped at, tells you when the novels you follow release something new, and keeps the chapters and covers you have already read on your device so they open instantly and still work without a signal.

It needs no account, shows no ads, has no analytics and never uploads your library anywhere: everything you add lives in the app's own storage on your device, and you can export all of it to a file whenever you want.

## 1. Finding novels — twelve sources in one place

LitReader connects to these sites and reads their real, live catalogues (not a bundled, outdated copy):

The **Browse** screen lists every source as a card with its own colour and icon, plus a live connection status for each one. You can search the source list, filter by language, and hide sources that are currently not answering so you only ever see ones that work.

Open a source and you get that site's own way of browsing: a title search, genre chips, a rating filter, and an endless grid of covers. Tap a cover to open the book page — cover, author (tappable, to list that author's other works), chapter count and source, rating in stars with its vote count, genre tags, the full synopsis (expandable), and the complete chapter list.

Novels in the library can be **moved to a different source** with *Migrate source*: pick another site, hit *Find match*, and LitReader searches that site by the book's title and author, then switches the book over — keeping your reading position in the process. It is the fix for the day your favourite site stops being reachable.

## 2. Search — one query, every source

**Global search** runs a title search on every source you tick, in parallel, and merges the results into a single grid with the source labelled on each cover. Its own little row of source chips lets you include or exclude sites per search, so you can look across all twelve, or just the three you actually read. Results from different sites for the same novel sit side by side and you pick the one with the better catalogue or the more up-to-date translation.

Inside a single source you get that site's own search as well, with genre and rating filters.

## 3. Your library

- Add any novel from any source with one tap on the book page (*Add to library*). - Covers are cached on the device, so the library grid paints instantly and keeps working offline. - Sort by **chapter count**, **title A–Z** or **recently added**. - Instant search inside the library. - **Multi-select** mode to remove several novels at once. - Remove a single novel from the cover's long-press menu, or open it directly on its source website from the same menu. - Each cover shows the source badge and, for novels with chapters you can only read locally, a **LOCAL** badge.

## 4. Update feed

The **Updates** screen answers the only question that matters with an ongoing series: *did anything new come out?* LitReader remembers the newest chapter of every novel in your library, then checks each one against its source and shows what is new — how many chapters you are behind, which chapter is newest, and which of your novels have failed to check. A "check for updates" button runs the whole pass again on demand, with a live progress indicator, and the results are cached so the list is there the moment you open the app.

## 5. History — always the exact spot

Every novel you read remembers the exact chapter and your scroll position inside it. The **History** screen lists where you left off, most recent first, and lets you jump straight back in.

It also has two tools built for the messy reality of web scrapers:

- **Fix history** — if a source reorganised its chapters and your saved position no longer points at the right chapter, this repairs the entries. - **Clear history**, and a select mode for removing individual entries.

## 6. The reader

The reading screen is built for long sessions:

- **Themes**: Black, Dim, Sepia and a real paper-white **Paper** theme. - **Fonts**: 14 choices, from *System Sans* and *System Serif* to Literata, Lora, Merriweather, Playfair Display, EB Garamond, Spectral, Crimson Text, PT Serif, Source Serif, Cormorant Garamond, monospace, and a decorative Dancing Script. - **Text size** with A− / A+ controls, and three **line-spacing** steps (compact, normal, relaxed). - **Tap the page to hide every control** and read distraction-free — the header, footer and scrubber slide away and come back on the next tap. - **Scrub the right edge** (or scroll) to move anywhere in the chapter; a floating pink pill shows your percentage as you move. - **In-chapter search** with match highlighting, a match counter and ‹ › stepping, plus a ✕ to clear. - **Bookmarks** per chapter, and a chapter list you can filter to **All / Unread / Read / Bookmarked**, search for a chapter by name, and page through with *Load more*. - **Previous / Next chapter** buttons in the footer, and a chapter-comments button. - **Copy text** can be allowed or locked off; pinch-zoom can be disabled too, so accidental zooms never break your place. - Titles, next/previous and progress are all remembered per novel.

## 7. Read aloud (text-to-speech)

LitReader can read a chapter to you with the device's own voices: choose a voice and a speed (0.5× to 2×), and it reads paragraph by paragraph while highlighting the sentence it is speaking. The controls float over the page so you can keep the screen dim or off and keep listening, and it stops cleanly at the end of the chapter — tap Next chapter and read-aloud picks up from the top of it.

## 8. Reviews and chapter comments

On a book page, *Comments* opens that novel's real reader reviews from its source — the average rating, the star breakdown, and the reviews themselves, paged with *Load more* so a popular novel's hundreds of reviews don't have to load at once. From inside the reader, the same sheet shows that chapter's comments. Nothing is invented: it is what the source's own readers wrote.

## 9. Ambient music

A small floating music bar sits on every screen: three instrumental loop tracks (*Calm*, *Focus*, *Epic*), searchable, with play/pause, previous/next and a master on/off switch, so a chapter can have a little atmosphere. It stays out of the way when it is switched off, and it keeps playing across screens.

## 10. Offline, storage and backups

- **Chapters are cached** as you read them; a chapter you have already opened loads instantly, and re-reads work without a network. - **Covers are cached** so the library and search grids stay visual offline. - **Save data** exports your library, reading history, per-chapter progress, bookmarks and reading settings to a single `litreader-save.json` file, and imports it back on a new phone or after a reinstall. - **Advanced → Storage used** shows exactly how much space LitReader is using, and lets you clear cached covers, the update cache, the source cookies, or reset the appearance and reading settings — each one on purpose, never automatically.

## 11. Appearance and settings

- **App background**: seven tones — pure black, charcoal, navy, slate, forest, plum and sepia. - **Accent colour**: eight choices; the whole app (buttons, highlights, dots, progress) follows it. - **Reading** settings (theme, font, size, spacing, zoom, copy, TTS) apply inside the reader. - **Settings → Appearance / Reading / Advanced**, with *Save data*, *About* and the *Update log* on the **More** tab. - **Readers online**: a live count of how many people are using LitReader right now, with a ⟳ button to refresh it — a small reminder that you are not the only one reading at 2am.

## 12. When a source blocks you

Third-party sites fight scrapers with captchas, rate limits and membership walls. LitReader handles this honestly instead of pretending:

- If a chapter or a search comes back blocked, LitReader says so, keeps retrying in the background (every few seconds), and shows a **Solve Captcha** card with the three simple steps: open the site, solve the puzzle, come back. - The app stays on its own screen while you do that and **checks for your return automatically** — the moment the site lets you in, the page you were waiting for loads by itself. - If you have to restart the app while solving, it **remembers what you were doing** (book, chapter or browse) and carries on there. - Anything genuinely slow shows a real card with *Try again* / *Open site* after a healthy wait, along with the elapsed seconds, instead of a spinner that spins forever. - Chapters that a source only offers to paying members are labelled as locked, and *Next* still moves you past them.

## 13. Staying up to date

LitReader checks its own update feed when it starts. When a newer version exists, the **More** tab and the **Update log** row show a small dot, and an update card appears with what changed and a *Get update* button (with *Not now* snoozing it for a day). The **Update log** screen lists every version's release notes, marks which one you are on, and tells you at a glance whether you are up to date.

## 14. Two builds, one app

- **Web app** — open the generator page and use it in the browser; nothing to install. - **Android app** — the same code as a standalone WebView build with its own internal fetch relay, so it is not limited by the browser's cross-origin rules and it lays itself out against the phone's real fullscreen and safe-area edges.

## What LitReader does not do (please keep this honest)

- It is a **reader, not a library**: the novels are fetched live from the third-party sources, and those sites own their content. LitReader stores no novels on its own servers and hosts nothing. - It cannot make a source work that is down, captcha-protected or membership-only. It tells you which one it is and lets you switch sources or open the page in your browser. - If a site changes its HTML, that one source can stop answering until the app is updated. The Sources screen shows each source's status so you can use another one meanwhile. - There is no account and no cloud sync: your library lives on your device, so use *Save data* if you want a backup or want to move phones.
