duckAssist

A lightweight, privacy-focused Android WebView wrapper designed for Duck.ai, DuckDuckGo's private AI chat service.

duckAssist bridges the gap between web and native by providing advanced integration features while maintaining the core privacy principles of DuckDuckGo. Duck.ai requires no login, allowing you to interact with multiple AI models (GPT-4o, Claude 3, Llama 3, and others) without compromising your personal identity.

Features

- Focused interface: a clean, distraction-free environment tailored for AI chat, with a native progress bar for page loading feedback. - Digital assistant integration: set duckAssist as your device's default digital assistant app and access it instantly via your system's assistant shortcut. - Auto-voice activation: when launched via the assistant shortcut, the app triggers the New Voice Chat feature automatically. - "Ask duck.ai" integration: select text in any app and choose Ask duck.ai from the context menu. The app opens in a dedicated window and loads your query directly into the chat. - Smart link handling: external links clicked inside the app are redirected to your system's default browser, keeping the chat session secure and focused. - Session persistence: user data and cookies are preserved so settings are not lost. - Automated cache management: the app cache is purged whenever you leave or close the app to protect privacy and save storage. - Native file support: upload documents for AI analysis and download attachments directly to the Downloads folder. - Custom duck-themed visual identity and icon. - HTML settings and custom prompts: configure bottom drawer behaviour, assistant voice options, and default prompt suffixes for text and document sharing separately. - High-visibility banner alert: an animated red banner overlay instructs you how to attach shared files instead of using low-visibility toasts.

Usage

Ask duck.ai

1. Highlight any text in your browser, email, or messaging app. 2. Tap the three-dot overflow menu and select Ask duck.ai. 3. The app opens in a separate window and loads your query directly into the chat prompt.

Digital assistant

1. Open Android Settings. 2. Go to Apps → Default apps → Digital assistant app. 3. Select duckAssist. 4. Use your device's assistant shortcut to launch a Voice Chat session instantly.

External navigation

Click any link or citation provided by the AI. The app launches your preferred browser to view the content, leaving your conversation preserved in duckAssist.
