About this app
Liseur is an open-source EPUB books reader for Android, and a client for calibre-web and Komga: a modern reader that is equally at home with the files on your phone and with your own book server.
👀 Reading * Paginated EPUB rendering through the Readium toolkit, full screen by default * Tap right to go forward, left to go back, the middle for the controls; volume keys work too * A whole page always fits the screen, with no stray scrolling to catch the last line * Four reading themes (Light, Sepia, Dark, Black), independent of the app's own theme * Four bundled open fonts or the publisher's own, plus size, line spacing, margins and brightness * Time left in the chapter, time left in the book, page or percentage, and a scrubber with chapter ticks
🪧 Marking up and looking up * Highlights in four colours, notes, and bookmarks with a corner ribbon * A notebook of everything you marked in a book, exportable as Markdown * Search the whole book, with snippets and jump-to highlighting * Definitions for any selected word, or a hand-off to an offline dictionary app. Online lookups are off until you turn them on, and you choose which Wiktionary edition or mirror answers them
📚 Your library * Index folders of EPUBs, covers and all * Books you are using sort to the front; finished ones get a tick * Pull to refresh picks up whatever changed behind the app's back
🌐 Your own server * calibre-web: one screen sets it up with URL, username and password, and Liseur works out the catalog, download rights and sync token * Komga: paste the server address and an API key * Your server's books merge into the same library with a cloud badge; tap one to download and open it * Reading positions sync both ways, through calibre-web's Kobo protocol or Komga's read-progress API * Remove the copy on the device, or delete the book from the server
🎉 Free software * No trackers, no analytics, no proprietary dependencies. The only network traffic is to the book server you configured and, if you switch online definitions on, to the dictionary site you chose.

What's new
- Liseur can now start an empty library with free Project Gutenberg books, load additional books later, sync reading settings across devices, and update a book server address without disconnecting. EPUB covers, page numbers, and reader controls are more reliable, and full translations are now included for German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Russian.
- ▼Reading ・Sync reading settings between devices: Fonts, themes, margins, palette choices, and reading preferences now travel with your account via liseur-sync (#227, #232). Device-specific controls like hardware volume buttons and e-ink screen refresh settings remain local.
- ・Page numbers move on every turn: Page counters in the footer now measure actual screens rather than file chunks, advancing predictably on every page turn and providing cleaner total page estimates (#236).
- ・Tappable text and brightness controls: Tap the letter labels or brightness icons in the appearance menu to adjust text size and screen brightness in precise steps (#235).
- ・Cleaner scrolling and control edges: Bottom reading controls extend to the screen edge in scroll mode, and control panels fade softly into the page background (#229).
- ▼Library ・Start an empty library with Project Gutenberg books: An empty library offers a shelf of free public domain books from Project Gutenberg, customizable by category, language, and initial catalog size (#226, #237).
- ・Load more free books on demand: Tap "Load 50 more books" on a Project Gutenberg shelf to fetch further titles in the same language and category without losing existing downloads (#239).
- ・Support for SVG book covers: Books using SVG cover artwork now render properly as shelf thumbnails (#234).
- ・Selectable download batch sizes: Choose how many books to download at once when fetching whole collections from a server.
- ・Dismissible catalog notices: Notices for large or partial OPDS catalogs can now be dismissed.
- ・New translations: Complete Italian translations are now included, alongside updated localization for German, Spanish, French, and Russian (#237).
- ▼calibre-web ・Edit server address without disconnecting: Change your book server's address directly without losing downloaded files, reading positions, annotations, or history.
- ・Preserve exact catalog addresses: OPDS server URLs are requested exactly as typed, ensuring compatibility with servers that require specific slashes or query strings (#226).
- ▼Fixes ・Loading spinner color consistency: Opening a book keeps the app's accent color for the loading indicator rather than taking on paper colors prematurely (#240).
- ・Status bar visibility over dark sheets: System status bar icons adapt automatically when reading themes change while bottom sheets are open (#228).
- ・Robust catalog retrieval: Temporary server rate limits or feed reordering during Gutenberg background updates no longer cause books to be skipped or hidden.
- ▼Under the hood ・Unified custom server connections: Retired dedicated Grimmory server options in favor of standard Custom OPDS and KOReader sync endpoints, automatically migrating existing accounts while preserving local progress and downloads (#230).
