Chimahon is a manga and novel reader for Android that has been redesigned from the ground up for language learning. Based on Komikku, it inherits all its power and stability while adding a set of tools that make it a Swiss Army knife for linguistic immersion, especially in Japanese. It is free, open-source, and contains no telemetry.

🔍 LINGUISTIC IMMERSION TOOLS

· Integrated native dictionary: Allows importing multiple dictionaries and searching for words instantly while reading. Supports recursive searches (searching within definitions) and term grouping. · OCR for manga: Extracts text directly from images. With a single tap, it selects a word and the dictionary opens. Compatible with Webtoon mode and the creation of captures for Anki. · Export to Anki: Creates vocabulary cards with complete metadata (expression, reading, definition, pitch accent, context sentence, and image) using flexible markers. Includes a duplicate checker to avoid repeating cards. · Support for .mokuro files: Allows opening preprocessed mangas with OCR, where the text is already positioned over the images. · Visual pitch accent: Displays Japanese accent patterns directly in the dictionary.

📖 NOVEL AND MANGA READER

· Novel reader: Recently added (v1.4.0), allows reading e-books with an integrated dictionary, chapter navigation, progress statistics, and customizable reading themes. · Manga reader: Retains all Komikku features: automatic themes that match the cover color, multiple reading modes, and bidirectional synchronization with MyAnimeList, AniList, Kitsu, and other trackers.

⚠️ THINGS TO CONSIDER

· It is a specialized tool. If you are not learning Japanese (or Chinese), its distinctive features will be of little use to you. · The reading experience is better if you already have a foundation in the language, although the dictionary helps at all levels. · As it is in active development, some features (like audio export for Anki) are still evolving. · Not available on Google Play.
