About this app
Liseur is an open-source EPUB books reader for Android, and a client for calibre-web and Komga: a modern reader that is equally at home with the files on your phone and with your own book server.
👀 Reading * Paginated EPUB rendering through the Readium toolkit, full screen by default * Tap right to go forward, left to go back, the middle for the controls; volume keys work too * A whole page always fits the screen, with no stray scrolling to catch the last line * Four reading themes (Light, Sepia, Dark, Black), independent of the app's own theme * Four bundled open fonts or the publisher's own, plus size, line spacing, margins and brightness * Time left in the chapter, time left in the book, page or percentage, and a scrubber with chapter ticks
🪧 Marking up and looking up * Highlights in four colours, notes, and bookmarks with a corner ribbon * A notebook of everything you marked in a book, exportable as Markdown * Search the whole book, with snippets and jump-to highlighting * Definitions for any selected word, or a hand-off to an offline dictionary app. Online lookups are off until you turn them on, and you choose which Wiktionary edition or mirror answers them
📚 Your library * Index folders of EPUBs, covers and all * Books you are using sort to the front; finished ones get a tick * Pull to refresh picks up whatever changed behind the app's back
🌐 Your own server * calibre-web: one screen sets it up with URL, username and password, and Liseur works out the catalog, download rights and sync token * Komga: paste the server address and an API key * Your server's books merge into the same library with a cloud badge; tap one to download and open it * Reading positions sync both ways, through calibre-web's Kobo protocol or Komga's read-progress API * Remove the copy on the device, or delete the book from the server
🎉 Free software * No trackers, no analytics, no proprietary dependencies. The only network traffic is to the book server you configured and, if you switch online definitions on, to the dictionary site you chose.

What's new
- Read books aloud using your phone’s built-in voices or an external speech server, with independent voice settings per language, sleep timers, and background playback. This release also introduces launcher shortcuts, a footer lock in settings, and improved jump navigation with the Back gesture.
- ▼Reading ・Read books aloud using device voices (offline, with no text leaving your phone) or any OpenAI-compatible speech server, including self-hosted Kokoro or cloud services like OpenAI, DeepInfra, OpenRouter, Mistral, and Groq (as well as Gemini in Google Play builds). The docked player lets you adjust speed from 0.75× to 2× without changing pitch, set a sleep timer by minutes or to the end of the chapter, and remembers preferred voices for each language. (#291, #295)
- ・Read-aloud playback continues in the background while turning pages or navigating elsewhere in the book, volume keys control audio level during playback, and reading can start directly from selected text. (#295)
- ・Choose to send up to five sentences per request to speech servers to reduce pauses between sentences on slower connections. (#295)
- ・A visual voice indicator shows when the reader is waiting for speech audio to load from a server, appearing inside the play button when controls are open and as a status line at the bottom of the page when controls are hidden. (#300)
- ・Lock footer changes in settings to prevent accidentally altering or tapping the footer items while reading. (#299)
- ・The system Back gesture returns to the page you jumped from whenever the "Back to page N" pill is showing, rather than immediately closing the book. (#287)
- ▼Library ・Launcher app shortcuts (accessible by long-pressing the app icon) allow you to jump straight into your most recently read unfinished book, open the library, or view reading statistics. (#286)
- ▼Fixes ・Kept the reading scrubber from jumping backwards or landing on incorrect pages when dragged or tapped. (#297)
- ・Prevented pages from sliding horizontally and jumping text highlights when selecting text near the top of the page in paginated mode. (#288)
- ・Fixed voice selection menus opening off-screen on e-ink devices like Boox. (#303)
- ・Handled revoked Android file permissions gracefully instead of crashing when opening a book. (#298)
- ・Ensured widget and shortcut taps open the intended book even if earlier background requests finish afterwards. (#286)
