About this app
Liseur is an open-source EPUB books reader for Android, and a client for calibre-web and Komga: a modern reader that is equally at home with the files on your phone and with your own book server.
👀 Reading * Paginated EPUB rendering through the Readium toolkit, full screen by default * Tap right to go forward, left to go back, the middle for the controls; volume keys work too * A whole page always fits the screen, with no stray scrolling to catch the last line * Four reading themes (Light, Sepia, Dark, Black), independent of the app's own theme * Four bundled open fonts or the publisher's own, plus size, line spacing, margins and brightness * Time left in the chapter, time left in the book, page or percentage, and a scrubber with chapter ticks
🪧 Marking up and looking up * Highlights in four colours, notes, and bookmarks with a corner ribbon * A notebook of everything you marked in a book, exportable as Markdown * Search the whole book, with snippets and jump-to highlighting * Definitions for any selected word, or a hand-off to an offline dictionary app. Online lookups are off until you turn them on, and you choose which Wiktionary edition or mirror answers them
📚 Your library * Index folders of EPUBs, covers and all * Books you are using sort to the front; finished ones get a tick * Pull to refresh picks up whatever changed behind the app's back
🌐 Your own server * calibre-web: one screen sets it up with URL, username and password, and Liseur works out the catalog, download rights and sync token * Komga: paste the server address and an API key * Your server's books merge into the same library with a cloud badge; tap one to download and open it * Reading positions sync both ways, through calibre-web's Kobo protocol or Komga's read-progress API * Remove the copy on the device, or delete the book from the server
🎉 Free software * No trackers, no analytics, no proprietary dependencies. The only network traffic is to the book server you configured and, if you switch online definitions on, to the dictionary site you chose.

What's new
- Translate selected passages or whole books page by page, with translations saved on your device and restored when reopening. This release also introduces base-word definitions and Wiktionary translations, refines read-aloud resumption, locks the reading footer against stray taps, and adds a two-pane Settings view on wide screens.
- ▼ Reading ・Translate selected passages or the entire book page by page as you read. Translated sentences are cached on the device (up to 50,000 sentences) so revisiting a page or reopening a book returns the translation immediately without duplicate requests. Reopened books stay in translation mode with a faint corner indicator until stopped, and starting read-aloud or tapping Stop restores the book's original text. (#306, #308, #309, #313, #315)
- ・In the Google Play build, an optional on-device Google ML Kit translator can be enabled in Settings, allowing offline translation once language models are downloaded over Wi-Fi. (#319)
- ・Dictionary lookups for plurals and conjugated verbs in English, French, Spanish, and Dutch now follow links to include the base word's meanings while keeping grammatical explanations visible. (#320)
- ・The Define card can now display foreign-language Wiktionary translations via a button at the bottom of the card, opening full entries in that language when available.
- ・Read-aloud resumes near where playback was paused, repeating up to a second of audio to catch the context of the sentence instead of restarting the entire sentence or re-requesting speech audio. (#304)
- ・The footer is now locked by default so accidental taps no longer change what it displays; long-pressing any corner or the center still opens the display menu. (#321)
- ・Streamlined the text selection bar by turning Note and Define into icons, showing a single default highlight swatch, and moving Read aloud and Translate behind a More button. (#320)
- ▼ Library ・Removed the reading stats home-screen widget, which struggled to stay in sync; the cover widget showing your current book remains available. (#312)
- ・Library grids, series volumes, and reader lists now extend behind the system navigation bar with proper bottom padding so content is not cut off. (#317)
- ▼ Fixes ・Added the missing API v1 version header to KOReader sync requests, fixing connection failures and HTTP 412 errors when pairing with the official KOReader sync server. (#316)
- ・Handled predictive back gestures correctly when leaving the catalog browser from the saved catalog list. (#317)
- ・Kept open settings screens up to date so choices such as highlight colors update immediately when altered. (#318)
- ・Preserved footnote links within translated sentences, tracked reading progress properly in vertical books, and stopped translations from jumping ahead when turning pages quickly.
- ・Corrected placement of Wiktionary translation tables when entries split translations across separate pages.
- ▼ Under the hood ・On tablets, foldables, and wide windows, Settings now displays in a two-pane layout with the settings list on the left and the open page on the right. (#317)
- ・External AI and speech servers, model names, and API keys are now consolidated on a shared "External services and API keys" page in Settings. (#305)
- ・Migrated screen navigation to Navigation 3, adding system predictive back animations and preserving screen state when switching views. (#317)
- ・Adjusted text fields across settings and language search to stay above the on-screen keyboard when typing. (#317)
- ・Mirrored directional arrows and controls in right-to-left layouts, and exposed proper roles and states for highlight colors and chapters to screen readers. (#317)
