About this app

AppManagerNG is a continuation of the App Manager project — a full-featured, root/ADB-aware package manager for Android — with a focus on user experience, polish, and approachability without sacrificing any of the depth that makes the original a power user staple.

Think of it as AppManager with a friendlier front door: the same engine, the same root/ADB capabilities, the same component blocking and tracker scanning — but layered behind a Material 3 interface that doesn't punish casual users for opening it.

  • Added
  • Installer storage preflight. Installs are refused before anything is staged when the selected splits plus expansion files cannot fit. Sizes that cannot be determined never read as zero, and a total that cannot be represented is refused rather than wrapped, so the gate only blocks on evidence. The dialog reports required vs free and offers the system storage manager. The install prompt now shows what an APK asks for: how many permissions it requests, which the platform classifies as sensitive (named), and the API levels it targets and supports. A permission this platform does not define is listed rather than dropped, and never called harmless. Native-library readiness is now a Finder filter and an App Details chip — 16 KB page alignment, 32-bit-only packages, and compressed libraries. A package whose libraries could not be read is never reported as ready. App Details explains Android's restricted-settings gate for sideloaded apps, and how to lift it. Scanner results now say what they are evidence of. An empty result reads "No known tracker matches" and states why absence is not proof. Each matched rule is labelled confirmed or tentative; exported reports (schema 2) carry the same provenance plus an explicit limitations block.
  • Changed
  • One fail-closed release gate, scripts/release_gate.py: source, consistency, dependency-floor, translation, tests, lint, reproducibility, and artifact identity run in order, and a receipt is written only after all of them pass. Install sessions declare their byte size so Android can reserve space up front. Batch actions during the first app-list build now say why they are unavailable.
  • Fixed
  • The reproducible-build check was comparing two builds that were not independent. clean does not empty Gradle's build cache, so the second build restored the first one's task outputs. The check also wrote its evidence under build/, where each build's clean destroyed it. Both are fixed, and both release flavors now verify byte-identical across two clean builds. Lint is judged against the baseline by rule, module-relative file, and message rather than by line number.
