About this app

Liseur is an open-source EPUB books reader for Android, and a client for calibre-web and Komga: a modern reader that is equally at home with the files on your phone and with your own book server.

👀 Reading * Paginated EPUB rendering through the Readium toolkit, full screen by default * Tap right to go forward, left to go back, the middle for the controls; volume keys work too * A whole page always fits the screen, with no stray scrolling to catch the last line * Four reading themes (Light, Sepia, Dark, Black), independent of the app's own theme * Four bundled open fonts or the publisher's own, plus size, line spacing, margins and brightness * Time left in the chapter, time left in the book, page or percentage, and a scrubber with chapter ticks

🪧 Marking up and looking up * Highlights in four colours, notes, and bookmarks with a corner ribbon * A notebook of everything you marked in a book, exportable as Markdown * Search the whole book, with snippets and jump-to highlighting * Definitions for any selected word, or a hand-off to an offline dictionary app. Online lookups are off until you turn them on, and you choose which Wiktionary edition or mirror answers them

📚 Your library * Index folders of EPUBs, covers and all * Books you are using sort to the front; finished ones get a tick * Pull to refresh picks up whatever changed behind the app's back

🌐 Your own server * calibre-web: one screen sets it up with URL, username and password, and Liseur works out the catalog, download rights and sync token * Komga: paste the server address and an API key * Your server's books merge into the same library with a cloud badge; tap one to download and open it * Reading positions sync both ways, through calibre-web's Kobo protocol or Komga's read-progress API * Remove the copy on the device, or delete the book from the server

🎉 Free software * No trackers, no analytics, no proprietary dependencies. The only network traffic is to the book server you configured and, if you switch online definitions on, to the dictionary site you chose.

What's new

v0.9.0Aug 19, 2026
  • This release introduces full-library bulk downloading, inline footnote popups while reading, and the ability to upload local books to or delete books from supported servers.
  • ●Reading ・Footnotes and endnotes now display in a themed card over the page instead of jumping to the back of the book. Internal links now leave a back button behind, and external links prompt for confirmation before opening in a browser. (#34)
  • ●Library ・Books opened from file managers or external applications are now saved directly into your library, ensuring reading positions, highlights, and history are preserved. (#33) ・Opening an unfiled book lets you choose whether to upload it to your server automatically, ask each time, or keep it on your device. (#29, #33) ・Added clear confirmation dialogs when deleting local book files or removing downloads. ・Added an option to star the Liseur repository on GitHub from the About screen. (#31)
  • ●calibre-web ・Download every book on your server in one go. The book server screen shows how many books it will fetch and their total size, skips books already on your device, and leaves archived books alone. The batch can be stopped at any time without losing books already downloaded. (#37) ・Delete books directly from supported servers (such as liseur-sync), with an option to keep or clear your remote reading position. (#32) ・The book options menu now explains when server deletion is disabled due to missing account token permissions.
  • ●Fixes ・Uploaded local books no longer duplicate on the shelf after a catalog refresh. (#29) ・Catalog synchronisation no longer drops newly uploaded local books or removes their reading history. (#29) ・Temporarily losing network connection no longer permanently disables server upload options. (#29) ・Corrected the local file deletion warning to note that reading progress and annotations are preserved when deleting local files. ・Fixed an issue where queuing many local books for upload stalled background processing behind dismissible screen notifications.
