🛡️ Proton VPN-Next — Unofficial Proton VPN Client

Proton VPN-Next is an unofficial Android client and community fork of the Proton VPN Android application. It is designed around modern Android networking components, AmneziaWG/AWG2 and additional connectivity options for networks where direct access to Proton VPN services may be difficult.

Proton VPN-Next is not an official Proton AG product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Proton AG. The project modifies the official Proton VPN Android codebase and should be treated as an independent community project.

🔐 AmneziaWG & AWGBox

The application uses an AWGBox networking core based on sing-box and supports AmneziaWG/AWG2 for VPN connections.

Depending on the build and configuration, the project provides:

• AmneziaWG • AWG2 • WireGuard-compatible VPN connectivity • Advanced connection and routing options

🌐 Connectivity & Bypass

Proton VPN-Next includes additional mechanisms intended to help establish Proton VPN connections in restrictive network environments:

• ByeDPI integration • SOCKS5 proxy support for Proton API access • Deno proxy support • Remote DNS fallback • Alternative API access strategies • Configurable VPN connection options • Automatic connection verification • Automatic reconnection

The project can dynamically use alternative Proton API endpoints and DNS-over-HTTPS fallback mechanisms when configured endpoints are unreachable.

🛡️ Privacy Flavor

A dedicated Privacy build is available with a privacy-oriented configuration that removes Sentry telemetry/error reporting and disables OTA updates.

The project also provides backup and restore functionality for sessions and application settings.

The interface is built with Jetpack Compose and Material 3 and includes:

📱 System Requirements

• Android 10 or newer • ARM64-v8a devices

The current project documentation states that x86_64 and 32-bit ARM builds are not supported.

Proton VPN-Next is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0).

The project is based on the official Proton VPN Android source code and incorporates third-party open-source components. Those components retain their respective licenses and copyright notices.

⚠️ Important

Proton VPN-Next is an unofficial client. It does not replace the official Proton VPN service or create an independent VPN network. A Proton VPN account/service may be required for normal Proton VPN connectivity, depending on the build and connection method.
