Description
UC Browser has won the crown as the most widely used mobile web browser in India and Indonesia, according to data released by StatCounter, displacing the use of Google Chrome in these large developing markets. But why do users prefer UC Browser over Chrome? The reason is as simple as that in these countries users have more limited hardware, and their web connections are generally slow, so the faster browsing speed offered by UC Browser becomes more important. In addition, the app of this browser occupies less space than that of Chrome, is faster and works better on low-end smartphones under unstable connections, in addition to also provides news, sports scores and other useful information to users just by entering the app. According to data revealed by StatCounter, the UC Browser has a market share very similar to that of the Apple browser, although in countries where it differs from those of the company Cupertino, which has leadership in the United States or Japan, where the iPhone has great acceptance. In fact, Chrome continues its reign obtaining 55% of the market, Safari for its part gets 15% of the total, being the second place among the most used browsers in the world while UC Browser has just under 9%, but is already positioned in third place globally. While Google has a 98% share of the mobile search market in India and Android has 82% of the mobile operating system market in the country, a potential threat to Google’s advertising revenue may be the ad blocker that UC Browser has built in. According to PageFair data, 94% of mobile adblocker usage in Asia Pacific is attributed to UC Browser. Chrome has initiated a counterattack incorporating its own adblocker that will work from mid-February, and that will block ads that do not meet user experience standards, so it will only be a matter of time to know if it can boost its use in Asian countries or if it will lose even more power.
