Most digital detox apps are opt-in: you start a timer, then try not to break it. DetoxDroid is the opposite. It makes a calmer phone your default state: fewer colours, fewer notifications, fewer distracting apps. You can still take intentional pauses when you need them.

Optional: Real Grayscale

Android only allows an app to touch the system colour filter if it holds WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS. Grant it once and the overlay is replaced by actual grayscale, plus Extra Dim (takes the screen below normal minimum brightness).

1. Shizuku — No computer required. The app includes a step-by-step wizard. 2. Root — One tap inside the app. 3. From a computer — Enable developer mode and USB debugging, then run the installation script.
