DetoxDroid

Most digital detox apps are opt-in: you start a timer, then try not to break it. DetoxDroid is the opposite. It makes a calmer phone your default state: fewer colours, fewer notifications, fewer distracting apps. You can still take intentional pauses when you need them.

Features

- Make Apps Boring — Grayscale, dimmed, and blurred. Listed apps lose colour; on Android 12+ they also go blurry. Works immediately after installation. - Do Not Disturb by default — Stays on for as long as DetoxDroid runs. - Break Doom Scrolling — Detects long scrolling sessions, interrupts them, and locks the feed for a cooldown. - Disable Apps — Block an app behind a warning screen or deactivate it outright (launcher icon and notifications included). Optional daily time budget. - Pause Button — Pause from Quick Settings, the assistant, or a long-pressed hardware button. Auto-resumes with a minimum gap. - Commitment Password — Lock selected settings behind a passphrase. - Minimal Launcher Widget — A text-only launcher for the apps you actually meant to open.

Installation

Install the APK and grant the accessibility service when prompted. That is the whole setup. Every feature runs immediately.

Optional: Real Grayscale

Android only allows an app to touch the system colour filter if it holds WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS. Grant it once and the overlay is replaced by actual grayscale, plus Extra Dim (takes the screen below normal minimum brightness).

Three ways to grant it:

1. Shizuku — No computer required. The app includes a step-by-step wizard. 2. Root — One tap inside the app. 3. From a computer — Enable developer mode and USB debugging, then run the installation script.
