Alternative to the official client. # Additional features compared to the F-Droid # Reviews and comments for apps # App ratings (up to 5 stars) — machine-generated scores • Upstream ratings (GitHub, GitLab, SourceForge) • Additional metrics based on free data (e.g., average release cycle time) to generate scores • Users choose which metrics are important to them, so there is no 'best app' in the repo — only 'best app' from the current user's perspective • 'Similar apps' and 'apps of the same category' when viewing an app • 'Same author apps' when viewing the app • A list of all authors, their apps and average rating • Display the app's website - even if it's 'only a README file on GitHub' • Latest apps and recently updated apps separately • Displays cards of the same size • Provides a list as an alternative for cards (as in older versions of F-Droid) for people who don't like cards • More options for organizing and sorting apps • Ability to 'tag' apps • Ability to hide apps • Categories in correct translation (if available) after changing device language • Screenshots in correct translation • Use of larger screens: more apps are displayed on tablets • Tags to easily find apps for standard tasks (email clients, file browsers, text editors) • Browse 'random apps' to find apps you wouldn't normally find • Displaying apps that the user might like (without stealing user data for analysis) • Aiming to provide many different views in app repositories to help the user find the right apps and encourage the use of more apps from the repository • The ability to 'Share' apps so they can be opened in another store (F-Droid, Yalp, Aurora,...) • A different search algorithm, can 'search harder' to continue searching if there are not enough results • Display app logos all the time (if network connection is ok) • Display more screenshots • Display screenshots, fully updated and in the correct language • Display screenshots even if they are not in the Fastlane structure • New and modern, easy to maintain code base • Active support • More to come in the future # What G-Droid can NOT (yet) do compared to F-Droid # Show or install an older version of the app • Create a local repository, share apps with people nearby, share apps via Bluetooth • Add other repositories than the F-Droid repository • Use a privileged extension (made but not yet configured), but G-Droid can use root rights on root devices to provide automatic installation • Automatic updates • HTTP proxy settings • G-Droid helps you find the best applications in different ways, but in some cases you may need the 'share' button to open the application in F-Droid and install it.
